Sober since July 20, 1965, Tom was a favorite of many in the South and around the US. His country accent hides the fact that he had a near photographic memory. He got active in addiction treatment after getting sober. He helped many to understand it was the spiritual realm that held the key to recovery and that "self knowledge availed us nothing.". Tom died sober sometime after 2000.
